Building A Business To Love

More like building several businesses to love! Phew, phew and more phew….it seems like everything I have worked on over the last three years or so is all starting to happen at once. I feel excited, positive, upbeat, happy, slightly overwhelmed and a bit surreal, all at once.

One of the reasons I’m finally able to re-instate this ezine – and have so many exciting things to write about – is because the last few months have been spent E-Myth’ing my existing businesses and creating new ones the E-Myth way.

(I have to thank here my wonderful business mentors Andy Shaw, Greg Ballard and Peter Halm from Passive Investments for supporting me through this process – and not forgetting my business partner Steve Watson, without whom none of it would be possible. OK, end of Oscar Speech)

Talking of The E-Myth Revisited, my ex-business coach Chris Barrow is actually sharing a stage with the legendary Michael Gerber himself in Leeds, on the 21st November. When I worked with Chris as my business coach, I never found it difficult to transpose the word "dentist" for "business owner" and Chris is an awesome speaker. Visit www.rai-events.co.uk for more information.

The Money Gym as a new brand and a business is coming along a treat with five potential new Money Gym Wealth Coaches interviewed this week – and they were all marvellous! We asked a series of questions about money and attitudes to wealth and wealthy people, which seem to have generated so many different responses…..Judith and I have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions.

Each new coach will have to go through the programme first as if they were a client – actually one of them is a client of three years standing! and then they will have extra training calls with Judith and I and conference calls all together. They will be starting with real clients in January.

My new partner in The Money Gym, Judith Morgan is wonderful – very strict with me which is a bit of a shock but fun – we laugh so much all the time. I have created lots of resources for the new coaches – pulling together all of the amazing stuff I have been using for the last three or four years and putting them in one place.

I have also been writing "coaching direction sheets" for each module, giving the new coaches something to work from when they are on the two calls a month on each Wealth Creation Module of the Fin*ancial Intelligence Programme – it’s amazing how much you instinctively know but getting it out of your head is another matter!

We have now introduced an Affiliate Partner scheme for The Money Gym – you can now earn 10% first level affiliate commission on the whole year’s membership fee and 5% second level (if someone you recommend becomes an affiliate partner) on anyone you recommend to The Money Gym who subsequently joins – even if it’s months or years afterwards.

If you are already an affiliate you can login here:

No is a Complete Sentence

Almost all the women I’ve worked with have trouble saying no. It’s also a massive problem for me personally as I will do JUST ABOUT ANYTHING rather than look after myself.  Especially at the moment, with the launch of the Wealth Creation Conference 2005 looming, the relaunch of The Money Gym for September, Automated Marketing Machine and Supermatch Software going like a train, the purchase of my wonderful diary system (I liked it so much that I bought the company!), ArtistManager.com moving to it’s new software………..

Phew!

I keep telling myself to just keep going till Christmas and everything will then be in place for me to take it a bit easier in the New Year…………if only we can hold off from starting any new companies!  At least Ballard Shaw / Passive Investments are taking care of my property investing for me or I think I might implode!

Anyway, I was very interested to see a link to the following article in a coaching discussion group I belong to.  I hope you enjoy it as I did, and it serves as a reminder to ease off a little and look after yourself a bit.  Catherine A Bruns says:

"It’s a common issue for us females as we’ve been generally raised and socialized to please and fit in. Often times we associate saying no with horrible consequences – the ending of relationships, anger, someone not liking us – and so there’s a little bit (or even a huge amount) of fear associated with saying no. And when we do say no, we feel like we have to explain our entire life’s situation just to make saying no OK.

Here’s a revolutionary idea – NO is a great freedom producing, boundary setting, taking care of myself kind of word, and, there is no need for excuses when I say no! Believe it? If you’re skeptical or know already that saying no is not your greatest strength, then read on for the 5 easy ways to incorporate saying no in your life.   Bumper sticker – NO = freedom!

Wealth Creation Conference 2005

Been up to Ballard Shaw today with Steve Watson, meeting Andy Shaw and Steve Howson to thrash out the marketing schedule for the Wealth Creation Conference on the 11th, 12th and 13th of November 2005.

We have two VERY exciting TV money/investment type celebrities confirmed, we have confirmed most of the other speakers – all of whom seem to be well up for it.  We were TRYING to choose a final design for the logo, but they were all pants.  How can graphic designers justify charging a fee to come up with ideas then submit two or three rubbish ideas only, that have taken no account of the very detailed creative brief we submitted???

We’ve worked out an exciting schedule of discounts and special incentives for early bookings and we have decided to offer the tickets on a special timed schedule – delegates of the previous conference will have several hours to buy theirs first, then the people who have pre-registered their interest from last time and since then (pssssst!  this is your chance to get yourself on that special list…….!) then we are mailing out to the speakers and other special strategic partners, then we are going public.

Then the PR starts and the series of mailings outlining the many exciting features that are unique to this conference.

I’m so excited I can hardly breathe!

Should You Think Twice About Accepting PayPal On Your Site? By Peter Twist

===============================================================

With over 78 million accounts worldwide, paypal has really established itself as a viable online payment service.

While many sites online offer only payment options through their merchant account, some sites are having success by offering paypal options as well. I will soon be accepting PayPal payment for this site too.

By offering paypal as an additional payment option, some webmasters have reported increases in their sales by as much as …..

Newsletter v Blog

Now a while ago I killed off my alter ego "The Seaside Landlady" for three reasons mainly.

One is that the newsletter had got kind of unwieldy and the writing of it tended to hang over me a bit every week.  The second was that I did it in HTML and spam filters are getting trickier and trickier to get HTML past.  The third was that I was getting more and more into the internet and it was getting too internet heavy and not so business orientated.  I also wasn’t going out so much so had less to talk about in the gossip section – most readers favourite bit!

But the problem is that I love getting really good newsletters – like Chris Barrow’s, Judith Morgan’s and Steve Errey’s (and they are all HTML) and that I can reach my 8000 odd subscribers most easily that way.  I get over 50 visits a day on the blog but it’s just not enough.

I shot myself in the marketing foot in a way.

So with the relaunch of NicolaCairncross.com as TheMoneyGym.com this week, I’m thinking of relaunching the newsletter.   Actually, while I’ve been musing here, I’ve decided to relaunch the newsletter.

In both HTML and text format.

I’ll use the blog to make notes of stuff during the week – like a diary in fact – and then cull the best bits for the newsletter.

Business Development Review

My ex-business coach Chris Barrow has been blogging on the process of Business Development and planning ahead that is so important to the success of any business.  He has also been drawing distinctions between the Marketing Funnel and the B/S Funnel – if you know Chris you will know what he means by that!  Read more about Chris’s business planning here >>>>

Reading Chris’ blog made me realise that I miss writing my old newsletter "Life, Love & The Diary of A Seaside Landlady" as that made me, once a week (or fortnight sometimes!) subconciously review each business and the things I had achieved each week, and what I needed to do for the next week to be even better.

Not so cross now

Update on the SmartOPTINPages software…….

I actually managed – with the help of LiquidWeb telephone support – to set up a MySQL database, then I worked through the (not great it has to be said) manual for the SmartOPTINPages software and sort of managed to publish 100 keyword specific newsletter opt in pages, with dynamic text – which is supposed to get picked up by the search engines and increase your opt in subscribers.

I say "sort of" because the pages are up there alright, but the Opt In box isn’t working.  Or is it, but it’s not jumping you to the right page afterwards?  Not sure.  I have submitted a support ticket but you could get old waiting for an answer to one of those…..I also have issues with one of the paragraphs left aligning rather than centering and I don’t like the Times Roman on the sign up box but think I know how to fix that……….there’s a live call on Thursday so I’ll ask my questions then.

I’m pretty sure it’s "a good thing" but I’m waiting till I’ve ironed out the glitches before I recommend it wholeheartedly to you all.

I’m not…..shrinking that is

I’m heavier that when I started.  In spite of going to the gym spasmodically.

Three things I could do to help:

1.  Walk around the block on the days I don’t get to the gym

2.  Drink Ame instead of white wine to unwind in the evenings during the week (it tastes very similar)

3.  Join weightwatchers and give Steve the meal suggestions (he’ll laugh!)

Well, I’m so cross with myself!

Well I am cross with myself!

I vowed to myself (and Steve) that I wouldn’t buy any more software – especially the kind that makes promises of vast amounts of traffic and suchlike, but I succumbed this morning (Steve in Prague on stag weekend………) to another purchase.  Stephen Pierce’s SmartOptInPages.  It’s a big old price ticket too and lo and behold, my nagging sense that it would have a steep learning curve to match the investment was not disappointed.

Tip:  Don’t buy any software over $79.50 if you don’t have
