Leaving Your Retirement to Luck (or worse!)

Andy’s put up a blog posting today, commenting on the recent news stories about how people are taking their chances on the Lottery or a hoped-for inheritance to provide for their retirement and Andy’s wondering how people can go through their whole lives without saving.  He raises lots of interesting points and I’d like to elaborate on a couple from the "other side" as it were…..

First of all, saving (as most people understand it) is just deadly dull and simply does not seem worth depriving yourself, on a day to day basis, as the returns are so tragic.  I remember well, in my twenties, working out that actually I could not afford to save anything as my outgoings were always more than my income, but even HAD I been able to save say £10 per month, at 2.5% interest, or whatever pathetic return the average savings account paid, per annum, that I would not be significantly better off – even in a million years time.

I didn’t how important it was to "pay myself first" rather than Sainsbury’s, the taxman, the Escape Club, Ted Baker, any credit card and bank loan interest that offered me money, I didn’t understand the miracle of compound interest (or only dimly) and I certainly didn’t understand the difference between savings and "investing" and how, if you learn to invest well, you can seek a return of 30% per annum, 50% per annum or even 100% per annum.

And it was only when I met the Passive Investment guys that I really understood that you could do "no money down" deals where you put a bit of money down to get into a deal, but that you always got it back, making it a "no money of your own" deal with an "infinity %" return on investment deal.

Do the sums on investing £10 a month and getting a 30, 50, 100, 1000% return on investment per annum.  Very exciting.

So, in conclusion, it’s possible to increase your income so that you free up money to invest, it’s possible to learn how to create a 30%, 50% 100% or 1000% per annum return on your investment, it’s possible to become a multi-millionaire within 5-10 years.  Ask Andy!  Come to the Wealth Creation Conference and find out how to do it for yourself.

Or don’t and rely on the lottery to sort our your old age.  And we all know that it’s more likely that you will get run over than win the lottery.  That would sort it out as well!

So Many Ways To Make An Extra Income

by Nicola Cairncross on September 27, 2005
in Money Gym | Diaries

As we were driving home from the Property Investor show – well, as Steve drove home, what luxury – I was reflecting that so many people, even though they were heavily invested in property, were still very interested in creating an income.

In fact, as Andy says on his blog today "obviously everyone was there because of his or her interest in property, or so they thought. When we were selling Wealth Creation Conference tickets, it was the web business information that most people who bought tickets said, was of real interest to them"

I find it really easy to come up with ideas for people as to how they could make money, it’s actually very frustrating to me that there is SO MUCH opportunity for making money out there but that we make it so hard to do.

So I thought it might be fun to come up with a "Top 10 Ways To Make Money Today" and actually between the Docklands and Shoreham Beach I came up with the "Top 20 Ways To Make Money Today".

Shall I share some?  Read on then >>>

We’ve Gone Green, Super Green

by Nicola Cairncross on September 27, 2005
in Money Gym | Diaries

It suddenly seems as if everyone is drinking green pond water around us, aka Innerlight SuperGreens, and since meeting Diane W at the Passive Investments Open Day recently and finding out that she has lost 4 stone after taking to the pond stuff, I have to confess my interest was piqued.

Then Greg Ballard turned up with a container full at the Property Investor Show and, having had Steve decide recently that we were going to diet and get fit for the Wealth Creation Conference in November, we decided to go for it.

Greg directed us to Karen’s Fresh Network site and we ordered some pond bilge powder of our own (all the while I was thinking "well, if it’s gonna be this fashionable perhaps I ought to become an affiliate / distributor myself" as I can recognise a trend when I see one but I really DO NOT have another second in the day)

It duly arrived today and we have each managed 3 litres each.  It actually tastes quite nice, and somehow drinking that much water is easier if you have something mixed into it that is supposed to be doing you some good.

It’s got a gadzillion ground up sprouting things and green leaves in it and you have to drop 16 drops of something called Prime PH into it.

Well, it tastes better than fish oil, that’s for sure, but you certainly have to wee a lot.

It’s Always About More Income!

One thing struck me as we were driving home from the Property Investor Show, having spent two days talking to people about the Wealth Creation Conference in November.

It’s always about wanting more income.   So I sat in the car and thought up "20 Ways To Increase Your Income Today" and I’ll be posting those in a day or two.

Because that is what the conference is all about – not JUST securing your future tomorrow, but increasing your income – and your standard of living – today!

So the whole slant of the marketing is going to shift this week to reflect that because I don’t think that people are getting that message – there are SO MANY ways to make money!

To follow, is an email I received today which bear this out as well…………

"Hello Nicola

I have recently discovered your (Money Gym) website and am slowly taking some time to do the exercises.

To give you some background, I successfully set up my own business in 1997 offering management development, leadership and coaching to corporate clients.   I had my son in 1999 at the age of 40 and not surprisingly since then my financial situation has become rather precarious (I am a lone parent).

I did continue with the business for a while, then I just did some temping which really helped as it meant regular income with no significant demands on me emotionally and intellectually which worked.
At the beginning of the year I relaunched my business and the life coaching side has done well without me really pay much attention to it but I am finding getting back into the corporate market more of a slog (spot the limiting belief!).

What prompted me to write was completing the wealth company financial table.   I am curious to understand why there is a focus on net worth.

On this scale I am a wealthy woman but in reality that wealth is tied up in property, endowments, etc so day to day I don’t feel wealthy.

I have to say this has got in the way of me thinking about future net worth since it hasn’t little meaning for me today why think about it in the future?

I would really welcome your thoughts on this.   Perhaps its something you have experienced yourself?

Best wishes, P

Perry Marshall Google Adwords Coaching – Day 1

by Nicola Cairncross on September 26, 2005
in Money Gym | Diaries

Well, I’ve done it!  I’ve signed up for Perry Marshall’s 11-week intensive Google Adwords Coaching programme.  I went for the Iridium programme in the end because I want to strart getting my head around the whole copywriting thing too.  I am coming to believe that Google Adwords and copywriting skills are the two most important things for an internet marketer/entrepreneur.

I really want to boost the traffic to www.artistmanager.com even further because it’s making a great living now but I just know it could be even better with more traffic.  It converts roughly 20% of the traffic it gets to free registered users and 0.3% of the traffic to paying subscribers.  And ArtistManager is totally automated – no work and a truly passive income – so I wouldn’t have to work harder for an increased income.

I’ve printed off the statistics for the site so that I have a benchmark to measure success against and so that it’s quantifiable.

Average Unique Visitors Per Day in last 7 days = 661
Average Registrations Per Day in last 7 days = 127.7
Average Subscribers Pers Day i last 7 days = 2.0
Average Income Per Day in last 7 days = £50 / $90

I also want to write a sales letter and start capturing some of 80% that gets away to the newsletter list in shopping cart.

The first batch of links and materials have arrived and I’m just too busy to start reading all the stuff (ironically I bought one of Perry’s courses before and have never got around to reading that either !) but there was very clear instructions as to what steps to take first, so I’m just going to do exactly as I’m told and see what happens.

I’ve set up a new Google Adwords account as instructed, and gone and found another 750 keywords and phrases by various methods and dropped them into the new account.  As the best performers become apparent, I’ll write specialist ads for them.

And that will have to be it for today.

Reporting Live From the Property Investor Show

It’s your roving wealth creation reporter, Nicola Cairncross, here and I’m reporting live from the Property Investor Show at Excel, Docklands.

I’m on the Passive Investments stand and they achieved their target of filling the next series of Open Days for their next Product – they did that in one day!  so we have transformed the stand and we are now promoting the Wealth Creation Conference.  There’s a video of Heythrop Park, Guy and Maria speaking and some photos of the speakers.

We have a whole team of promotions people and they are working hard to bring the passers by onto the stand so that we can tell them all about it.

Passive have generously given up some of their commission so that we can offer a 10% discount to attendees of the Property Investor show.  So, if you were thinking of booking, then get yourself down to Excel and book yourself in!

How To Tame Your Money Worries

Strange things happen to people whose lives are touched by the Money Gym. I should know, I am one.

A Coach and Alternative Therapist by training, I recently went out to buy a first car for my daughter. (Not without the old scarcity mentality kicking in briefly and a little huffing and puffing about cost.) We test-drove a few cars, did the sums on the proverbial back of a fag packet and then I did something quite out of character: instead of buying one, I bought two. Cheerfully and confidently.

As I later said to Judith and Nicola: “It was a no-brainer”. The cars in question (the smart for four) are not only reliable, safe and cheap to run, they also have a great finance deal on them.

Now I grew up with all kinds of received wisdom and prejudices about all things financial (don’t we all?), one of which was:

Dinner with a Brain Surgeon…

I called my friend Marlene the other day to report on her Google Adword campaign…..she’s just refurbishing a residential care home in Worthing and I offered to put up a one page website to collect names and emails, then drive traffic to the site by using Google.

I felt fairly confident that I could make it work, having had a ton of success with a very specialist campaign for

Phew and Phew Again

I have NEVER worked so hard in my life!

I never imagined that organising a Wealth Conference could be so much like hard work – and Andy’s doing most of the organising!  Steve Howson from Passive Investments is heavily involved and Gill is organising all the speakers.  But still……….the website, sales letters, affiliate scheme, info pages for speakers, content for banners…….

What good fun it all is though and how wonderful to work so closely with people who are independent but all pulling together!
