I’ve Finally Been Tempted….

Even thought Robert Kiyosaki has said that, if he was starting out in business again, he would join a network marketing organisation, and even though many people have tried to recruit me into various opportunities over the years, I’ve never really been able to get passionate about any of the products.

The whole building a business part of it has been a bit nebulous for me too, because there is no way I’m going to get involved in inviting people to meetings – especially at my house! – and such like and while I know that following the proven formula in network marketing works, the whole concept didn’t work for me.

Now this may be my limiting beliefs, but in my opinion, to be wildly successful AND in integrity, I feel that you have to be willing to follow the proven formula for success in network marketing AND be passionate about the products.

But I am aware that, for people who are just starting out, or for busy successful people who want to build a new business very quickly, network marketing is a superb opportunity.

Now I Know I Said “No New Businesses”….

Nicola says:

Even thought Robert Kiyosaki has said that, if he was starting out in business again, he would join a network marketing organisation, and even though many people have tried to recruit me into various opportunities over the years, I’ve never really been able to get passionate about any of the products.

Cleaning stuff…………no, although we do own a cleaning business I don’t do my own cleaning………Nutritional supplements………..well, I am now taking multivits for my hair after the diet…………Air & Water Filters…………I did once own a portable NSA air filter and it worked a treat for my cat allergy…..Avon……….I prefer Clinique………….Ann Summers……hmmmmm, let’s not go there!

So I’ve not been tempted so far.

Until I was approached by one of my existing business partners and Money Gym coach…..

Peter’s Exponential Growth Matrix

Peter Thomson shared his exponential business growth matrix with us, at the Wealth Creation Conference in November and the torn out bit of paper, that I scribbled notes on, has just surfaced in my "to do" pile.

It’s possibly the most insightful bit of paper I own at the moment, from a business success point of view, apart from the Brett McFall Marketing Secrets White Paper that I secured at the World Internet Summit.

Here is the matrix

<table id=”table1″ bordercolor=”#c0c0c0″ cellpadding=”5″ width=”132″ bgcolor=”#ffffff” border=”1″ style=”BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse”>

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>No of
Customers

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>Average Order Value

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>Average Order Frequency

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>Turnover

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>100

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>100

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>2

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>20,000

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>110

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>100

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>2

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>22,000

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>110

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>110

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>2.2

<span style=”font-size: 0.6em;”>26,620

You can see that he starts with 100 customers and an average order value of £100 or $100 and an average order frequency of two.

When you increase the number of customers, but not the value of the order or the frequency, then you get a bit of growth.

Now, we all know that the majority of marketing spend is spent in the pursuit of acquiring new customers.

How can we use this matrix to increase our turnover, our profits and our business success?

Well, what if you could increase the numbers of customers a little bit, but then increase the value of what we sell them, and the frequency with which we do it? What effect would that have?

Rather an amazing one actually. As you can see.

What he’s saying is, that if you make tiny improvements over several areas of your business, there is an exponential growth effect.

This takes the power of compounding into account and it’s a slippery concept to grasp, but once you do, you can harness that power into all parts of your wealth creation and business activities.

Peter’s Words Of Wisdom

More from my magical piece of paper – I’ve decided I’m going to get them all down here, then write articles about them….

"It’s not what it makes FOR you, it’s what it makes OF you"

This is similar in sentiment to one of my all time favourite quotes "The main reason to set a goal to be a millionaire is not for the money, but for who you will meet, and what you will learn along the way" Mike Litman, "Conversations With Millionaires"

Peter Thompson on Success (cont)

Another gem from Peter Thomson’s presentation at the Wealth Creation Conference in November last year…..

"People will never consistently do, who they aren’t"

I take it to mean that changing your behaviour is easier if you become the person for whom that that behaviour would be natural and normal.

But changing oneself as a person is no small order. How can we do that?

And this is where the "duffle coat story" comes into it’s own………..I’ll tell you that one tomorrow.

Peter Thomson on Success Thinking

From this rather precious little bit of paper with Peter Thomson’s words of wisdom scribbled down, I find the following on how to be more successful…

"It’s what you say, before you say what you say, that makes the difference"

And I suppose that could mean, what you say to yourself, internally, before you say what you say out loud.

I’m trying to think of examples on this one, because it struck me very forcefully during Peter’s presentation, and it still, nearly one year on, resonates with me.

If you have any examples of where one could sabotage oneself, by saying something before you say what you mean to say, I would love to hear them.

In the meantime I’m going to think on it.

Which is more powerful…..?

More from this scrap of paper with marketing and gems on how to increase business….

"Sell the avoidance of pain rather than the pursuit of pleasure"

Well, my mate Kim is finally online

<a onclick=”window.open(this.href, ‘_blank’, ‘width=178,height=219,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0′); return false” href=”http://wealthcoach.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/kim1.jpg”><img title=”Kim1″ height=”123″ alt=”My friend Kim” src=”http://wealthcoach.typepad.com/fromthedeskofnicolacairnc/images/kim1.jpg” width=”100″ border=”0″ style=”FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px” /> Well, the marvellous day has come!

My mate Kim has finally got an email address and is learning to use a computer. We have been friends since we were 15 and you would marvel at the fact that I can be best mates with someone who is SO CLUELESS about what I do but she’s a great bird………..

She is a very bright cookie but has never seen the need before………well, she is crashing into the 21st Century with a bang now, I can tell you. Newly single (email me in the first instance, boys, and include a photo!) and liberated from a design orientated husband who wouldn’t entertain a PC in the house!! she has decided that she can’t be doing with a Mac and is going down the PC route.

She’s even talking about buying a laptop and going on a computer course to teach her the basics as she says learning from me is like trying to learn French from someone who is so fluent that I can’t remember how to teach the basics, like how to use a mouse.

Welcome to the worldwide web Kim!

On Marketing: Jay Abraham Says….

Just tidying up and found a scrap of paper with my notes from Peter Thomson’s presentation at the last Wealth Creation Conference. He was talking about Jay Abrahams and says that he always remembers the following:

On how to increase business, ask yourself these questions:

How do we increase the number of our customers?

How do we increase the average order value?

How do we increase the average order frequency?

How do we keep them once we have got them? What’s our WOW factor?
