Lea Woodward – a whirlwind 2 months!

Nicola says:

I received this amazing email this week and I’m so proud of what Lea has achieved I have to share it with you!

11 October 2006

Hi
Nicola

As you
know, I’ve been working with you for two months now on
your
Internet Marketing Mentoring programme.  I have invested
just under £1000 in coaching fees so far.

In the
1st month after my husband was made
redundant, we’re on track to earn more than we’d have
received as a household when he worked full time – and
because we’ve earned it doing what we both love, it
doesn’t even feel like work!
In the 2nd month, I’ll have
picked up what equates to around £5k worth of more
client work and uncovered a potential $1m idea, which
I’m about to implement!

And
that’s not even considering the fact that I’ve truly
discovered what it is I love doing and want to work
towards in the longer term – which is priceless to me.
I’ve spent far too long faffing around and I finally
feel that we’re both on the right track – with me & my
niche coaching business and my husband as an artist
(plus a whole raft of online businesses in the
pipeline!).

So, I
think that’s great progress
AND a
great return on my investment for 2
months, don’t you?!??

Thank
you!
Lea

What are the fastest, most effective ways to drive huge amounts of traffic to my web site?

Sile O’Broin asked Nicola this burning question and she replied:

Traffic
generation largely divides into two main methods:  Offline and
Online

Offline
methods of traffic generation include the obvious like checking that your
website address is included on your business stationery such as letterhead,
invoices and complement slips.

You would not believe the number of times that I
go to a networking meeting, take someone’s card, go home and check out their
website, only to find it doesn’t exist, it’s way out of date or it doesn’t tell
me what the person can do for me.  You can include an inexpensively printed
flyer with the main benefit of your product or service, or your business card
with every piece of post you send out – even your bills!  There is a person
opening every bit of post somewhere in the world and they are ALL potential
customers.

Talking of
which, real-world networking is great fun but can be very time consuming and
gets you in front of quite a limited number of people.  Because of this, I also
like online networking and I’ll come back to that in a moment.  Getting PR –
papers, magazines and tv – is great for driving traffic to your site.  Make sure
that, if someone is going to feature you, they promise to include your website
details and they are often much more keen to do that than include a phone
number.

You can learn how to do your own PR most effectively and inexpensively
by investing in one of Paula Gardner’s excellent workshops or home study courses
at…

Good Debt V Bad Debt

by Nicola Cairncross on October 12, 2006
in Money Gym | Diaries

Nicola says:

Anyone who has read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" knows that good debt is defined by
Robert Kiyosaki as debt that someone else is paying for you (a mortgage on a
rented buy-to-let property for example) and bad debt is debt that you are paying
for yourself.

Mary Hunt, in her excellent book "Debt Free Living" has a slightly different
slant on it, which adds to the above definition, I think.

She says that good debt is debt that is secured on something of value thus
decreasing the risk for both lender and borrower. Ideally secured on something
that will increase in value, not decrease. So in the event that you were ever
unable to repay the debt, you would have something to sell, something of more
value than the debt.

For Mary, bad debt is consumer debt, where you incur debt to pay for a
depreciating item, something that may not even last three years before becoming
obsolete, and where there is risk for both borrower and lender because the debt
is unsecured.

She sums it up brilliantly by saying:

More gems from Marlon’s Matt’s Marketing Diary

More gems from Marlon’s new assistant Matt’s Marketing Diary….

It’s not enough to talk about Features & Benefits (and most people only talk about features let alone benefits) you have to talk about advantages too.

Features – something specific about your product and what that thing is

Advantages – what that thing does

Benefits – what that thing does for your customer

Starting a Business

Andy Shaw from Passive Investments asks:

Do you want
your own business, or do you just want a job?

When we first
started we thought the route to success financially was through being the owners
of a business. And in that statement we are correct, it can be a route to
financial success, as long as you choose a business not a job. However, the
problem lies in actually putting that choice into place.

When you first
start up, you make quite a few early mistakes, small things that don’t really
matter; they are responsible for a little extra expense and some loss of time.
But these should not be considered as reasons not to start.

At the start
you are enthused and most importantly ‘driven’. You spend all of your time,
working on the business, getting it marketed (even if you’re a complete amateur
at it, you do it anyway). Your time is taken up doing the most important things
and at the start you focus on the most important task in any business. That task
and that skill is marketing (took me 14 years to understand that. I used to
think it was sales, but the salesman can’t sell if there is no one there to sell
to!).

Anyway shortly
after the start you begin doing the thing you started the biz to do. You start
carrying out the work that the biz was designed for. You stop the marketing and
start doing the work.

Herein lies the reason why the vast majority of start
up businesses fail.

You won’t
realise it but

The value of money

by NicolaCairncross on October 10, 2006
in Money Gym | Success

Margaret says:

I have an MP3 player. It was a gift, it’s great, it’s sexy… but the software is useless.

Actually, to be fair, the software is great if you want to listen to commercial music. It’s easy, intuitive and it works. All my albums, all the songs, all the artists and more besides!

By now the gifted ones among you will sense that there’s a "but" coming.

I’ve had no end of hassle trying to listen to audio books, seminars and downloaded teleclasses as the software seems to file them at random making it almost impossible to find two tracks from the same programme let alone play them in the right order. This includes recordings from the Wealth Creation Conference and other gems on the journey to financial freedom.

So my eyes started wandering…

Would a different player be more user friendly for my audio book MP3s?

I was on the verge of spending £150 on a new machine when something – probably Nicola’s voice in the back of my mind – made me stop.  And what could be so effective at stopping my spending????
