History Of The Money Gym: A Story of Amazing People & Amazing Books.

.NicolaOfficialHighResCropped About UsNicola Cairncross trained as a Life Coach after being made redundant for the umpteenth time at the age of 38, with two small children and a husband at college to support. She had hired a Life Coach herself to try and figure out where she was going wrong with her career (such as it was!) and her first, most excellent coach, Rachel Turner, had a very positive influence on Nicola.

She had never read any personal development materials (indeed, was highly cynical about anything vaguely “woo woo” but quite liked “How To” books. About this time she accidentally read Steven Covey’s “7 Habits Of Highly Effective People” (it looked practical and down to earth) and “Swimming With Pirahna Makes You Hungry” by Colin Turner (it looked simple and fun).

She was also lucky enough, at that time, to meet an amazing mentor in the form of Bennie Gray from the Space Organisation. Bennie encouraged Nicola to use the skills learned from the “7 Habits” book.

Rachel encouraged her to think about alternative careers apart from the music industry and after being headhunted from the Space Organisation, and being made redundant again (for the last time ever! Nicola resolved), she decided to train as a coach. As part of the training with Coach University, she came into contact with Thomas Leonard – a totally inspirational man.

She learned about creativity, tolerations, core needs and values, having a vision, setting goals, writing things down and getting them out of her head, the secret of attraction, designing supportive environments and many other things that had been a closed book to date but most of all, she learned about taking total responsiblity for your life and not blaming other people, circumstances, luck or fate.

As she worked on herself, and her career and her money, she began to read more and more on prosperity, wealth creation and abundance thinking. She started to attract life coaching clients and she shared what she was learning with them about money – with some quite amazing results. As a result of what she was learning – and the influence of some more inspirational people such as Gill Fielding and then Chris Barrow – Nicola also started to put into practice what she found out.

It was a slow and painful process, as while creative, bright and outwardly confident, she had a lot of negative and limiting beliefs, and self-esteem issues from her childhood. As a lot of us do! Nicola started seeing an amazing therapist, Nicole Reilly, at this time, and stayed there for three years, trying to find out why she was so driven and restless and unhappy, and she credits this for helping her to be able to deal with her past, move on, and take the new stuff she was learning and actually take action.

About this time Nicola read the life changing books “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki and “E-Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber. Everything was coming together and the pennies were starting to drop.

From someone who had just wanted to earn £2000 a month to pay the bills (a task that had seemed nearly impossible prior to 1998) she went on to – with her sister and brother in law – buy and renovate a house in Worthing, then bought “no money down” and renovated a half million pound 12-bedroom guesthouse into Worthing’s first boutique hotel, The Acacia, and build a six figure coaching practice The Money Gym using just a website and an ezine.

The Money Gym grew out of Nicola Cairncross’ growing fascination with the disparity between people who instinctively knew how to make money work for them, and those who didn’t – of which she had been one! She also wanted to formalise her coaching into a one year programme, with workshops held at The Acacia (the idea of her brilliant accountant Mark Nicholson at Spofforths in Worthing).

Nicola knew that wealth creation and abundance thinking was not about schooling, or which college you went to, because she looked about her and saw that many friends who were scholastic high achievers were trapped in jobs, and even the high flyers were only earning around £50k – £100k a year, while other friends, who many not have even gone to college, were millionaires and even multimillionaires.

Nicola was introduced to Steve Watson when Mike Murray – her incredibly pro-active business bank manager at Nat West in Worthing, sent her to this amazing restaurant The Pepper beststevepic2 2 About UsTree. Immediately recognising that the food was world-class and the Manager, Steve, was not only very funny, but stunningly dedicated and professional, Nicola started hosting her workshop dinners, and together with her sister Sarah, their ladies networking evenings there, and they gradually got to know each other.

The owner of the Pepper Tree swapped marketing coaching for Steve for dinners for Nicola and her husband, and while Steve didn’t know much about computers, he surprised Nicola by taking all her suggestions on board, and even buying himself a computer.

She laughs to remember that when she phoned him up and offered to coach him personally, as part of her coaching training, he declined (in horror – he says now!)

She didn’t know that he had, however, subscribed to her ezine.

The Acacia at this time was being run by Jude, who went to New Zealand. Nicola and her husband and kids lived and worked there for a while (Nicola cooked the breakfasts for all the first Money Gym members!) but then Nicola’s Dad and his girlfriend ran the hotel while Nicola and her husband tried living in Greece then Spain.

When she started looking for someone to run The Acacia after her Dad also went to New Zealand, she outlined the key qualities of the ideal person/people in her ezine, knowing that they would come.

Steve was reading the ezine, pulled her to one side one evening, and offered to come to The Acacia to run it for her. Nicola didn’t know it but The Pepper Tree was being sold. Nicola knew immediately he was perfect, he thought it was a great gig and his passport out of catering (owner safely abroad, time to study in the daytime for the MCSE – Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certification he had set his heart on).

judithandnicola About UsAbout this time, ex-Accountant and serial entrepreneur Judith Morgan joined The Money Gym as a client and Nicola says “Judith and I seemed very different on the phone, but I loved her energy. When she walked down the hall of The Acacia for the first time, both Steve and I took to her immediately”.

Although it’s a one year programme, Judith only lasted about 8 months in The Money Gym – she took it all on board with only a teeny glitch (“Don’t talk to me about property, I’m not interested!”) and then went off to dynamically put it all into practice.

Nicola becoming friends – via her sister Sarah – with Andy Shaw and Greg Ballard of Passive Investments put paid to that little limiting belief and Judith became a property investor client (along with many other Money Gym members and ezine readers) quite quickly.

Nicola, Steve and Judith became firm friends (if rather distant geographically) and kept in touch, Judith starting to lead The Money Gym Business workshops after Rachel had her baby, and meeting up at coaching and internet events.

When The Acacia finally sold (after Greg and Andy convinced Nicola that the effort/reward ratio for a hotel was completely out of kilter) Steve and Nicola moved to Shoreham Beach and shared a house, while building up the internet side of their business – a mutual passion since attending the first World Internet Summit in the UK in 2004.

As Nicola and Steve became more and more interested in the internet, and teamed up with Gill, Andy & Greg to create the UK’s first Wealth Conference at Heythrop Park, Nicola started thinking about closing The Money Gym because her personality type struggle to repeat things over and over again. The thought of giving up something that was so dear to her heart was painful though….

One day, while driving along, she was thinking “Who loves coaching, is down to earth and energetic like me, knows The Money Gym principles inside out and might want to become a partner in The Money Gym…..” and of course Judith popped into mind.

Nicola screeched to a halt in Shoreham High St and called Judith on the phone, shouting incoherently into the phone what was to become an enduring catch phrase for both of them “I’ve had a TOTALLY BRILLIANT idea!! You come and join me in The Money Gym and do all the coaching!” Judith had a better idea….”Let’s find Money Gym coaches from the client base and I’ll train them to coach new clients…..”

What Makes The Difference?

When creating The Money Gym, Nicola thought about what she would have liked to see – what she needed herself. The answer was a combination of the more esoteric prosperity and abundance / attraction thinking, and the more down to earth, step by step, “how to”. Combined with an ongoing accountability that simple training programmes just didn’t supply.

And she was proved right. A combination of teaching, training, support and coaching seemed to work wonders for the first year’s intake of clients many of whom are now financially free, a couple of which have now hit the millionare mark, with one becoming a multi-millionaire within his first 18 months.

The Money Gym Gold coaching programme is aimed at people who are absolutely deadly serious about wanting financial freedom; not within their lifetime, not before they retire, but within one or two years. It is an action learning course and you will be expected to take action, having created a personal financial strategy within the first three months.

bestbox About UsThis programme is NOT for you if want us to wave a magic wand and do the work for you, if you don’t know how to pay the bills at the end of the month or if you don’t know how to use email and the internet.

This programme IS for you if you want to find out how to never have to think about paying the bills again.

No excuses anymore, just a totally different way of thinking and full support while you achieve this incredibly exciting goal. One year, two to three revenue streams and a long term strategy for total financial freedom.

Not only does it work, but we believe in paying it forward first; when we launched, back in 2003, we gave the first 5 places (worth £3500 at the time) on this programme away – absolutely free! The only person to finish that year was Annie Kaszina, and not only is she now financially free, she is one of our Wealth Coaches now!

And at the Wealth Conference 2005 we gave away another 7 places – now worth £5500 – but only one person finished that year too, sadly.

It seems if we don’t pay for it, we don’t value it and this is why we don’t have a scholarship policy.

Founder of The Money Gym, Nicola Cairncross, is always keen to help others recognize and maximize their full worth and value as she initially struggled with this. She remembers:

“I knew I was destined for success but I despaired of finding it through the kind of jobs available to me. I always used to look at my pay check and think “for God’s sake, get bigger!” but I never knew how to make that happen, as they don’t teach success at school beyond the traditional routes.

And as for creating a successful business, I had even less of a clue, though I knew that was the route I wanted to go, and I later found out that this can be teamed with property investing and making money online, along with the stockmarket (investing and trading) to create real and lasting wealth.

As well as creating wealth for myself, my family and my loved ones, I realised that my mission in life was to share my knowledge with as many people as possible so that they didn’t have to struggle around money like I did and so that they could learn how to set themselves free financially too”.

And so The Money Gym was born!
