How to Ensure a Comfy Old Age
by Nicola Cairncross and
featured in Wealth Tips 101 (see the right hand column)
A
while ago, Gill Fielding (not pictured!), was sitting in the
dentist with her 13 year old daughter. There were few good
magazines so they got talking and her daughter asked Gill
how much she would have to save per month, in order to
become a millionaire.
Gill said 'work it out' so her daughter spent 10 minutes
or so doing some sums. She worked out that if she saved
£1984 per month from age 18 to age 60, then she would have a
million. Then Gill showed her that, through the power of
compounding, if she just invested her money and achieved an
average return on her investment of 12% per year, she would
only have to save/invest ...

One of the biggest things for me personally (when
joining
The Money Gym) was deciding which coach I wanted
to work with and to be honest, before I had my first
call with Judith to discuss joining the group, I already
knew that
Philly was the perfect coach for me!
Being heavily involved in online businesses, as well as
my many other interests, I wanted a coach that could not
only facilitate me keeping on track to achieve my goals
but also domeone who knew the market I was working
within.
Philly has been an absolute godsend and in many ways
she's become the 'little conscience' that sits on my
shoulder and goes everywhere with me. Philly has helped
me have focus and get definition for my goals and I have
to say I feel that her support has been instrumental in
me achieving so much.
In the last 9 months, I've now set up two new companies
amongst many other things I'm earning passive income
from and I have a clear strategy for the future. I can
only thank
The Money Gym and Philly for not only being a true impartial
coach but also being a source of a lot of invaluable
knowledge!

This week we're in Lane #1 : Business
More on putting your prices up (or down!)
by guest author John
McCulloch
Your clients lie to you.
Regularly and frequently. Shamelessly. And it's called
negotiating.
The most common lie goes like this:
"I can get the same
thing down the road for less!"
OK... so that begs the question "So why don't you go there
and get it?"
And you'll find there is one of three answers to this: they
can't, they can't, or they don't want to:
1. The place down the road hasn't got any. Or they've got a
similar item that's not actually the same at all.
2. The place down the road does have the item and it is both
exactly the same and is cheaper, but for whatever reason
your prospect can't get it from there. Maybe he's a bad
payer or his boss has told him not to.
3. The place down the road is unreliable, a cheat, has
bad-breath or any one of a number of real or perceived
faults that means your prospect actually doesn't want to buy
from him.
Believe me, if your prospect could get the same thing at a
lower price somewhere else and price was all he cared about,
why the hell is he still talking to you?
What he's
really saying is this...

Happiness at Work is...
Nicola says:
I've
come across another great blog while
wandering about - it's called "Happiness is
9 to 5" and it's run by "Chief Happiness
Officer" Alexander Kjerulf.
Alexander says:
"One of the biggest threats to happiness at
work is having too many fixed expenses at
home.
When you’re completely dependent on bringing
home a pay check (or two!) every single
month, you’re vulnerable. If work turns out
to be unbearable you can’t simply up and
leave and take three months without income.
I’ve chosen low-rent living for myself. At
first it was through accident rather than
planning but now I would never live any
other way. Read on to see how it has made me
happy at work - and in life.
Some years ago, my wonderful girlfriend
Patricia and I were hunting for a new place
to live in Copenhagen. We were living in her
small, 1-bedroom apartment and we really
longed for more space, more rooms and a
bigger kitchen. Homes are getting
ludicrously expensive in all European
capitals including Copenhagen, so we went
through a process that is common to many
people hunting for a new home:
1. We started looking at places within our
budget that we could easily afford.
2. But those places weren’t really cool so
we started looking at more and more
expensive places
3. Untill we’d reached our threshold of pain
and were only considering the most expensive
places we could conceivably afford
We actually submitted bids on two different
(expensive) homes and narrowly lost out in
each case to other bidders. Back then we
were devastated - we really had our minds
set on those two places.
Today we’re incredibly relieved that it
never came through. We’re still...

A note from Nicola

Dear Friend
It’s been a busy
and snowy
old week – here’s the view from my
office last Wednesday. That bank you
can see is the stones on the beach
(we are VERY close) and I’ve never
seen snow on the stones before.
Beautiful.
And a bit of a sad old week. (This
bits for you, Nicola King)
We said goodbye to two of our pets
this week, the heroic and David
Bowie lookalike, Maximilian the
First, who we finally had to send to
sleep. We thought he had the mange
(caused by mites in the food which,
when a hamster is old, they are not
so able to fight off. He suddenly
lost a lot of his lovely white and
ginger fur, and started scratching
furiously.
Now, one shouldn’t count the cost of
looking after one you love, but let
me tell you he cost us a pretty
penny towards the end, with his
drops and injections and fresh fruit
and veg diet supplements. Turned out
not be be mange at all, but some
awful skin problem caused by his
advanced years. He was nearly 3
years old, which in the words of the
vet, was “methuselan” in hamster
years.
Always known for his great escapes,
to the great detriment of the
under-sofa area (his favourite bolt
hole) Max kept us on our toes to the
last, with Steve being most
surprised to meet him in the kitchen
one morning, just when we thought
his spectacularly agile escapologist
days were over. Here’s a picture of
him trying the great outdoors under
the watchful eye of his “mummy”
Phoebe (seagulls are killers!). Look
at the little pawsies…so sad. RIP,
Maximilian The Hamster 2004-2007
Much Loved By All At Money Gym
Towers.
Then we lost Albert, the first and
the best fish pet, who outlived five
others and was a “black moor with
butterfly tail”, who started out all
beautiful, black and velvety with a
tail like midnight chiffon
He rather surprisingly turned
blotchy orange over the course of
his life, not wanting to stand out
in the crowd of the orange gang,
Sunny II, Son Of Lava, and the new
arrivals, Will, Keiran and Nelson I.
Although HE had to be helped on his
way by Steve, (who has taken the
fish as his own domain, exercising
housekeeping on that tank beyond any
of our previous efforts) who let him
drift off in a gentle manner, by
laying him in a bowl of water in the
freezer. As the temperature drops,
they just go to sleep apparently
(following my brother in law Nick’s
instructions – and he should know
coz he’s in the navy!!).
Steve’s been doing a great line in
cardboard coffins, cross making and
grave-digging and he is now
describing himself as “right hand
man, butler, boy-who-makes-the-tea
and funeral director”.
On the work / busy front, we have
been getting ready for the re-launch
of
The Money Gym Platinum Level at
the new membership fee (and having
“complimentary introductory” calls
from those of you canny enough to
want to
join The Money Gym
before
14th February, when the fee goes up.
We are just about to do a final
survey to see which elements of the
programme are perceived to have the
most value and that should be
interesting. We will use those
results to hone our offering and
decide what to include in our Money
Gym Graduates Mastermind Group.
We have also been out and about at
the Yes! Group, and getting
Andy
Shaw’s Private Label Book Launch
(with extra goodies) out to my ezine
readers. I was also helping
Marcus
promote his upcoming and highly
recommended
stockmarket course –
Marcus does our Money Gym stockmarket workshops of course.
He’s lent me one of his homestudy
courses, as I think we don’t blog
enough about stockmarket investing
and I need a hobby (!!) I’ll be
going on his next two day course,
but I want to get started now.
Have fun, I am!
