Small Businesses - from Survival to Success
by Nicola Cairncross
Michelle Roberton-Jones asked:
Hi Nicola, I have now been running Sanctuary of Angels for just coming up to four years. The “business” in itself means the world to me and I have personally grown beyond belief during this time too.
It is coming to crunch time now as I know the first three years are meant to be the 'proof in the pudding' as it were – and although the business is helping so many adults and children live a more fulfilling life, it is not creating an income for me – in fact it is just creating a huge overdraft and
f*inancial worry.
I know I do not want to simply throw away all my heartfelt hard work and I also know that what I provide as a service is invaluable but I cannot continue to support it anymore and also want to reach a lot more people - but there's only so much I can do on my own.
(Some!) of my questions are:
- How can I get more traffic to my website? I would like to bet getting at least 12 students (adults/children) attending each course I provide.
- How can I find a publisher for my children’s books?
- How can I improve my CD sales – do you have any helpful tips or suggestions?
Best Wishes Michelle www.SanctuaryOfAngels.com
Nicola says:
Hi Michelle. You are very clear about what you need to make your business work for you financially now, which is great, but I guess you are not so clear about what to do to make that happen.
My question to you then is, what exactly are you currently doing to achieve those things?
You need a starting point and if you are doing nothing at the moment that’s as good a starting point as any! None of these things are going to just happen. You will have to make them happen and I don’t want you to underestimate the effort involved in that.
Let’s look at them one by one...

"While
I may have lots of experience with Internet
Marketing and running Internet businesses,
The Money Gym has shown me other ways to
earn a passive income such as buying
Property and the Stockmarket.
Without this, I would still
be churning out websites as opposed to
diversifying into Investment property or
even thinking about Spread Betting!
The Money Gym and especially
the email support group truly inspires!
Instead of just one set of targets for 2007,
the group has driven me to 3; one for my
Internet Businesses, One for a Property
Portfolio and one for a Stockmarket based
income."

This week we're in Lane #2 : internet
Why write an ezine?
by Nicola Cairncross
I write an ezine (have done since 1999) and I read a LOT of ezines - I just love ‘em.
The ones I open instantly are, for example, Chris Barrow’s (www.TheBusinessCoachingCo.com) and Judith Morgan’s (www.JudithMorgan.com) and that is because they are funny, personal, occasionally cross, but above all, they share bits of their lives.
Unless you get a sense that people are a “work in progress”, that they are always reading and learning, and not only putting into practice what they are learning, but sharing it, it just becomes too dull.
I also love Mike Stewart’s video ezine - hilarious (www.FromTheDeskOfMikeStewart.com) - he’s such a professional and a very nice man. His enthusiasm shines through and that’s infectious.
Ezines and blogs - the same things make them successful, actually.
My ezine used to be...

Creating Your Own Wealth Community
by Margaret Collins,
Money Gym Wealth Coach:
It's brilliant talking with the new intake of
Money Gym clients and explaining what exactly they have joined. Yes, they know they have paid the price, joined
The Money Gym Platinum group but, what exactly will they get???
What happens next is like playing pass the parcel - but where you, the client, get the present every time the music stops!
There are so many extra bits of information available through the one-to-one coaching and the tele-seminars, the client resources and (my favourite) downloads of audio from the 1st Wealth C*reation Conference - it can be a bit overwhelming. As if that is ever a problem on the road to financ*ial independence!!
However, the bit that I find is the absolute best, cherry on the cake experience is the...

Dear Friend
We are hot foot
back from
The Money Gym Property workshop
where about 90% of the people were new
Money Gym clients so it was their
first time. There they were, gathered in
a hotel conference room totally
unsuspecting about what was about to
happen to them!
Greg Ballard kicked off our 2007
workshops in great style – he was firing
on all cylinders and the funniest and
most effective I’ve ever seen him. By
lunchtime the delegates looked startled
to say the least (if not downright
shocked!) by the way a multi-millionaire
thinks about the world so differently.
We had loads of
light bulb moments happening and as
Judith and I always say, we had a few
that literally nearly fell off their
chairs with excitement!
By the end of the
two days we had shown at least five or
six people how they could be
f*inancially f*ree RIGHT NOW with what
they already have – our highest score
ever!
See the video testimonials over at the
blog (if they're not up there yet,
keep checking back as they will be
soon!) >>>>>
The hotel was a bit tragic but the staff
were amazing overall. Particular thanks
to the barmaid of the Sports Bar where I
sat and read the paper – funny, sassy,
warm, bright…..she was great! And the
three (count them, three!) concierges it
took to get me online late on the first
night.
After much research, we have now decided
which membership site software to go for
to grow
The Money Gym Club online. I’m so
excited because for the first time,
we’ll be able to gather all our stuff
together in one place – a place with
great customer service - and create an
awesome W*ealth Creation resource. I’ve
been doing this since 1999 and I have
gathered and created so many amazing
tools, articles, worksheets, audio and
video…
I have just spent the most AMAZING
Saturday watching Rich Schefren’s new
videos which are just packed full of the
most incredible content. If you
are self-employed or a business owner
you just have to go over there now and
watch it! Go to
http://www.StrategicProfits.com
Rich, you may
remember, is the guy who blew me away
with his “Internet Marketing Manifesto”
and then the “Final Chapter” and
“Missing Chapter”. Catch my full review
here and see the videos at the link
above.
Another recommended
report is the 31 page $10 report called
the “Thud Report” by Paul Myers – find
it at
www.SellMoreForMore.com. I found
eight great new ideas for marketing
The Money Gym more effectively in
this little report. Full of gems.
Have you seen the new Stephen Pierce
video on YouTube.com yet? You can see it
at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjt8IV009QI
– really good and only 7 minutes long.
One of the highlights for me was him
saying that too many people give up too
soon because they don’t know what the
path to success feels like. They don’t
know that they are actually on it and
when it gets a little rough, they give
up. Way too soon.
He also talks about how many people –
even friends and family and (BUSINESS
PARTNERS !! *grin*) mostly don’t
understand / get the entrepreneurial
personality type and how this presents
massive challenges.
I did a search for
a definitive definition of how we are
different from everyone else and came up
with the rather lame “The one element
that separates entrepreneurs from all
others is their extra measure of
“independent spirit.” which I found at
Emerging Entrepreneurs (http://emerging-entrepreneurs.com/entrepreneur-personality.php)
and they go on to say…
“Now, here is a very abbreviated
description of the FIVE differing
entrepreneurial types. Think of them as
existing on a continuum spanning
horizontally left to right with an
increasing need for operational and
concept independence as the list
progresses. No one type is better,
stronger, or more capable than another;
they simply have different personalities
and styles.
First, is the Intrapreneur. Although
tied to the “other owned” organization
where they are employed, the
Intrapreneur enjoys independent
responsibilities where risk and
reputation are part of the assignment.
What kinds of assignments would those
be? Heading up a take-over or merger.
Implementation of a new business
development plan. The Franchisee is
next. The most comfortable person in
this role desires full ownership, but
needs/wants/sees the benefit of total
systems association and support. The
Business Opportunity Buyer desires
ownership, but leaves the support fold
after learning the business. The
Independent goes in owning the business
and knowing the business from day one.
And, that which is not known will be
hustled, figured out, and dealt with on
the fly. Finally, the Practical
Visionary (?) with the question mark
following the term grabs for the
greatest measure of independence. This
person follows their heart and their
dream with great gusto, but the question
mark is attached because until the
vision is proven, its practical value
and acceptance by the marketplace
remains a question”
Rich Schefren talks about how many
Franchisee applications are designed to
actively screen out the more independent
entrepreneurs because they won’t stick
to the proven system – they just have to
keep tinkering. They struggle to create
the systems, much less follow them and
they ALWAYS think that they can make
things better. Phew! That’s good then.
I’ve often wondered why I was never
drawn to run a Kall Kwik or MacDonalds.
Now I know they would never have let me
in as I am the Practical Visionary.
But I’m learning to work in a team,
honest guv!
Have fun, we are!
