This week we're in Lane #1 : Business
The Entrepreneurial Traps
by Nicola Cairncross
So what are the Entrepreneurial Traps?
Jaworsky talks about a book called "The Hero With A Thousand Faces" by Joseph Campbell, where Campbell talks about the heroic quest or journey, describing the changes that people and organisations alike can go through.
The picture begins with the "wasteland", the inauthentic life where nothing feels good, everything feels empty; before you receive the "call to adventure", to become what we are meant to become, to achieve our "vital design".
It may take years and we may ignore it for a long time, but if we hear and respond to the call we cross the threshold and begin the journey, into the unknown. This is when the "predicable miracles" start to occur, like unseen helping hands. This is the point at which our freedom and destiny merge, where we encounter a series of traps, trials, tests and "ordeals".
These traps, trials, tests and ordeals test our commitment to the direction we have taken and they provide opportunities to learn from failure. This is probably the most useful part of the journey as it teaches us different ways to think. Remember in "Conversations With Millionaires" where they say that the best reason to decide to become a millionaire is because of what you will learn along the way?
The traps along the way can cause you to regress to your old ways of thinking and acting. They hinder the process of your becoming part of the unfolding of the universe and it's abundance, and we fall into those traps principally when the stakes are really high, when lots is happening, things going beautifully and a lot of money is involved.
When we fall into a trap, Jaworsky says, a vicious circle can begin to operate and things go from bad to worse very quickly. But if we are aware of our traps and remain alert to their danger, we can largely avoid their consequences.
The Trap of Responsibility is where you...

Should I do this scary deal?
by
Diane Lance, Graduated Money Gym
Platinum Member
Hi Nicola
Just thought you'd like to know I've taken the plunge and I am buying a new family home in Lewes, and I'm going to rent out my property in Brighton.
A scary prospect for me as money is going to be tight for a while. I bounced my fears off to our very own Maria Davies and she came back with some wise words - I've copied the email trail below and wondered if any of your readers would benefit from them as many people must go through the same feelings and fears.
I've come a long way since we first made contact in July 2005, you told me then I could be f*inancially f*ree with a bit of work and bottle but at the time it was too new and I didn't have the b*lls to do it. Well, if this new deal all works out then we will own about £920K worth of property, two thirds of which is self- financing. If we can get through the short term cash flow issues then I'm hoping in a few years' time we should be very comfortable.
I hope the story is of interest. Love, Diane

Dear Friend
REAL LIFE
We’ve
been to London Town this week for
The Money Gym Platinum members
Internet Marketing Workshop. Those
intrepid hotel scouts Steve and Judith
had found the
Southwark Rose Hotel, which looked
lovely considering it was so affordable
When I say affordable, I mean by
pre-booked London standards. It was a
three star but the conference facilities
were very nice and the bedrooms, while
very small, were as good as my previous
favourite cheapie hotel, the Holiday
Inn. However, by booking through
LastMinute.com, I have stayed in some of
the grandest 5 stars in London, for the
same money. You can’t book a seminar
using LastMinute.com though, sadly, you
need to know in advance where you are
going.
As usual it was the staff that let it
down, particularly the reception staff.
Surly, unsmiling, and unhelpful, would
be my description. The restaurant staff
were not far behind (and the restaurant
smelt rather nastily of fried food). Two
examples stood out.
On the Monday, I went out to speak first
to the Precious Online ladies at the
HBOS (old Bank of Scotland) building in
Old Broad St and got back, buzzing, at
just before 10pm. I walked into the
restaurant at 2 minutes to 10, to be
told the kitchen had closed. When I
looked disappointed (and hungry!) the
barman said that he would ask them if
they would do anything, but his attitude
was so uncaring and his tone so
reluctant that I told him “never mind”
thinking that a) I shouldn’t be eating
that late anyway, and b) if they did
cook me anything, they would do
something horrid to it. I live with an
ex-chef remember.
Then a cocky little salesman type walked
in, ego and testosterone in full effect,
and said that he had called up from
reception a minute ago to confirm the
restaurant was still open and could they
order. He got the same treatment but
ploughed on through regardless, and he
ordered a two course meal for four.
I was standing right next to him, and
you would think the barman would have
turned to me and said, “well if they are
cooking for these people they may as
well do something for you; what would
you like?” but no chance. Totally
ignored me.
The second incident came when Steve
went, with all our bags, overhead
projector, pull ups, suitcases etc, to
reception to ask for a taxi to London
Bridge, and the hotel manager actually
exclaimed to Steve “but it’s only up the
road!” implying we should walk!
Hilarious! Suffice to say that we may
hold our conferences there in future but
we won’t be staying overnight there if
we can help it.
And the so-called wireless broadband was
T-Mobile which was prohibitively
expensive, and kept crashing my computer
about every 2-3 minutes. Closing it down
completely. (Another AAAAAAAGH! moment)
The delegates got a lot out of the two
days though. I tailored the workshop
much more towards the overall strategic
planning of a web business, and much
less about the nuts and bolts of doing
it yourself. I don’t want our Money Gym
Platinum (fast track) clients doing it
themselves. I want them planning a
business online that will run without
them – not learning HTML and Google
Adwords.
Each one of them came out of the two-day
workshop with, not only an idea for a
web business, if they didn’t have one
before, but the step by step planning of
how to get themselves started.
Then, in a couple of months, the next
workshop, “Build A Business To Love”
with Judith, will show them how to make
it (or any other business they may have)
a roaring success, how to build it up so
that they don’t have to work IN their
business, and finally, how to sell it
for a socking great sum of cash that
will mean they never have to work again,
if they don’t want to.

SECOND LIFE
What’s Hermione been up to? Loads of
course, including letting her first
apartment at Manhattan Beach. She’s
looking for more land now and has just
drawn up her first in-world balance
sheet. We are just waiting for a new
valuation of the land, now it’s been
developed and generating a rental
income, so that she can add it to her
balance sheet. We’ll report back next
week on that one.
And finally
*
Happy 52nd Birthday to Judith Morgan *
she’s off out having a lovely day
somewhere but we want her to know
JUDITH!! WE LOVE
YA! xxx
Have fun, we are (and 24 degrees on the
Beach this weekend!)
