Will It Eat You Or Will It Feed You? Calculating your
Return On Investment - ROI
by
Nicola Cairncross
My
partner in The Money Gym, Judith Morgan has been holding
many calls with potential Gold Express members this week,
keen to get in before the midnight tonight (31 July)
deadline, to secure their bonuses, and interestingly, one
question is coming up again and again.
"If I invest £XXXX with the Money Gym, what will be my
ROI and how fast will it happen"
Before I tell you Judith's answer to this, I would like
to go into ROI or "Return On Investment" in a bit more
detail, as not many people understand it properly. I cover
it quite a bit in my book "The Money Gym: Ultimate Wealth
Workout" because it's very important to know what it is and
how it can change, especially if you are thinking of going
self employed or starting a business.
WHAT IS ROI?
The useful thing about the ROI model is that it can be
used to compare any potential wealth creation activity, to
compare a property deal with a business deal, a stock market
investment with an internet opportunity.
When you first get interested in Wealth Creation one of
the first questions is 'so how do I find these investment,
property or business opportunities'?
A little bit later, you will find that you are
overwhelmed with all the possibilities and opportunities are
jumping out at you from every corner. So how can you tell
which ones to pursue?
If you have read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki,
you will know about the 'Does it Eat Me, or does it Feed Me'
question and it's a really useful first yardstick of how
good a deal may be
"I have to say that if it wasn’t for
the fact that I joined the
Money Gym three years ago, I probably
would have had to pack up and go back to
working for someone else long ago as I had
no idea what was involved in running a
business. Apart from the ability to
type, I had practically no skills that would help
me start up and grow a business.
I’ve learned so much by being in contact
with this group of people – how to build my
own websites, how to write ecourses and
books, how to get income from Google Adsense
and Amazon Associates and how to use Google
Adwords to drive traffic to my websites…
the list goes on and on.
The people at the
Money Gym are an amazingly
knowledgeable lot and they don’t hesitate to
share what they know - thank you!"

Run Starfish Run!
by Marion Ryan,
Money Gym Wealth Coach
One
client story that is inspiring me at present
is Jeni Mumford's running goal.
Jeni is not a Sonia O'Sullivan. She's a
blonde livewire who'd look more at home
draped around a bottle of vintage Pinot Noir
than flexing her quadriceps on a misty dawn
Embankment run.
But she's made her mind up and the Universe
has conspired nicely to attract a place for
her in the Great North Run at the end of
September.
I tried running myself once but decided to
give up when I was overtaken by a 90 year
old farmer on a bike. Even with a ciggy
stuck to his lip he was wheezing less than I
was.
Running a marathon was my "big hairy goal"
back in 2003 but counts as...
"Things don't go wrong and break your heart so you
can become bitter and give up. They happen to break
you down and build you up so you can be all that you
were intended to be"
On Friday I went to lunch at Andy Shaw’s
office in Ashington, and it was great to
see some old mateys again. Andy had
beaten me up by email that morning
*grin* so I left him to get on with the
networking while I caught up with Ben
and Phil.
I spent the weekend with Rich Schefren
(virtually speaking), working through
Modules 4 and 5 of his
Business Growth Coaching Programme
and yet again, some real gems jumped out
at me. Just one sentence in Module 5
inspired me as to how to remind people
that our Gold Express deadline was about
to expire, in a way that (I think) added
value by telling stories of real people
who both had, and hadn’t taken action in
a Money Gym style! I got a lot of
positive reaction to those and we had
our biggest ever intake of Gold or Gold
Express clients in that one week ever!
Rich’s materials also inspired me to
create a flow chart of our ideal
customer journey, enabling me to work
out the “lifetime value” of a customer.
Once you know this, you can work out how
much you are able to spend acquiring
that customer, both of which are
invaluable “grown up business” tools.
For the first time, ever, since the days
of it’s one website, one coaching
programme beginnings, The Money Gym is
really looking like a fully integrated
business that, one day, could have a
bigger valuation than just the one year
profits.
Then we re-recorded a couple of the
webinars on Monday and Tuesday,
preparatory to my editing them and
turning them into an audio version of my
book, luckily we only had to do the ones
where the content had been great but the
sound quality less so.
On Wednesday Judith came down to talk
about our planned “Women
Talk Money” workshop day in London
on 5 October, work with Steve on our
accounts and her new internet project a
la “4-Hour Work Week” a copy of which
she has left with me now, to read.
We whizzed round to look at some new
luxury apartments being built on
Shoreham Beach (I do like a nice look at
some property) but they were too far
from the sea, sadly.
My faithful old Mercedes died a bit this
week. Boo hoo. I never really go
anywhere very far, to speak of, and if I
do, I let the train take the strain, so
I’m not bothered about a fancy car.
The old red Merc was the first car I got
after learning about f*inancial
intelligence, the first I have ever
bought outright for cash, and not on
some expensive finance plan, and I got
it £2k under market value, and while
it’s getting progressively more
battered, the sound system still sounds
good and the sun still shines in the sun
roof (although that doesn’t shut so well
since the kids did the running across
the car game – monsters!). It’s acquired
some interesting scrapes that I don’t
remember doing *grin* and the day the
gritter lorry went past and took the
paint off part of the wing wasn’t the
best day.
The summer hols are driving me mad
already, interestingly the kids are
amusing themselves quite well until they
go to Egypt with their dad next week,
but it’s the endless cooking! If there
is two or three of them that means three
different lunches – fussy my lot! and
then the clearing up. Very dull. My mate
Kim suggested I make up lunch boxes
every morning then they can eat and go
when they feel like it, but I’m a bit
stumped for inspiration on content. I
can’t give them the same food they have
every day in term time!!
Still one more webinar next Tuesday
evening (see Tele-Seminars > Events at
the
www.TheMoneyGymClub.com then one
with Mike Segall on “Generating New
Business Through Cold Calling” on
Wednesday (www.TheMoneyGym.com/WorkingLunch
) then after taking the summer off from
speaking engagements, I will be speaking
for Sue Stockdale, founder of
Mission Possible. They will be
co-hosting a
webinar in September so keep your
eyes peeled for more details on that!
Phew, I might just do a bit in the
mornings and go down the beach at 2pm
every day. If only the sun would come
out!
Too tired for much Second Life this week but my sister
sent this to me courtesy of Dolescum
Bonetto for all you SL addicts out
there!
Have fun, we are!
