There has been a lot on the TV news this week about
d*ebt; record numbers of people are getting overwhelmed
with their d*ebt it seems, and there have been a number
of interviews with people who have struggling with d*ebt,
and those who, more inspiringly, have overcome d*ebt.
GMTV's website reports that "More than eight million
Britons are in serious d*ebt, a quarter of whom regularly
struggle to meet their monthly repayments, research
showed today.
Around 18% of adults have amassed more than £10,000
in unsecured d*ebt, such as on credit cards, store cards
and loans, according to debt consultancy Thomas Charles.
The figure was up from the 14% of people who owed
more than £10,000 in April and the 13% of people who had
amassed d*ebts of this level 12 months ago.
The research found that....
One in 10 Britons now owes between £10,000 and
£20,000
3% owe between £20,000 and £30,000
5% of people have amassed d*ebts of more than
£30,000.
Among those who owe at least five figures, 25%
admitted that they frequently struggled to be able
to meet their monthly repayments.
Men tend to owe more than women, with 13% of men
owing more than £15,000, compared with 11% of women.
But despite this, women are more likely to
struggle with repayments at 27% compared with 24% of
men."
I’m no stranger to d*ebt myself, sometimes almost
catastrophic amounts of it, as any reader of my ezine
knows. I came out of my marriage with over £48k worth
of d*ebt in my name, and then the sale of the hotel left
me with some more.
However, the topic of d*ebt is not all doom and
gloom………
GMTV offer lots of advice about debt on their website
– but be aware that the d*ebt part of that website is
part hosted on the USwitch website, a d*ebt consolidation
company. So take the info and ignore the ads!
I’m absolutely the last person to be judgemental or
shocked when I hear about .....
"I've
not yet had the pleasure of meeting Nicola face to face and can't wait
to do so. I've had the real privilege of an hour of her time on
the phone.
Not only does she sound a really warm and giving person, she is
probably one of the most savvy Internet marketeers I've ever spoken
to (and I've met a few).
Now and again you have moments in your life where you make a
connection that will not only raise your game but also lead
to a lifelong contact. I just had one of those this morning.
The alarm clock didn’t go off. The modem
isn’t working. The milk has spoiled.
And yet, there are opportunities…
You awake to the feeling of sunshine
streaming through a window. You read a
newspaper instead of scanning news online.
You drink your coffee black.
Each day brings new challenges and
opportunities. But what if you could turn
those challenges into opportunities for
greater productivity?
It’s possible, because I do it every day.
Here’s the secret:
Focus attention on the tasks that will lead
to success.
Before you make your coffee… Before you
butter your toast… Before you drop the kids
off at school or complete any part of your
morning ritual, ask yourself this question
about your business day...
I’m off to hear
Heather, my jazz and opera singing
sister, sing in Pisa Cathedral next week
with my brother Alex and sister Sarah.
We are staying the night in Pisa and
going out with the orchestra afterwards
for dinner, then getting on a train to
Florence and wending our way through the
Tuscan countryside, where we are
variously staying in a boutique hotel
and a boutique b&b in the same building
right in the heart of the city.
It’s my first time in Italy and it’s a
bonding trip, as amazingly, as kids, our
parents never took us on holiday -
always too busy buying, doing up and
selling houses, trying to get out of the
poverty trap. We also grew up in
Worthing, with the beach nearby so
perhaps my parents felt that was good
enough!
My dad had also been in the Merchant
Navy so he had seen the world, and as
you will know if you read last weeks
ezine, my first father had taken my
mother away, after her first breakdown,
so she had travelled the world
extensively too.
I’ve been to New York (once), Miami
Beach (five times), Sarasota (once),
Nassau (once), Greece (about 12 times
but just the Mani Peninsula) and I’ve
lived in Spain.
A bit pathetic, and when considering the
“4 Hour Work Week” by Timothy Ferris, I
have decided that, when the kids leave
home, I will spend my life living partly
here, on a house on the foreshore in
Shoreham Beach, with an even better view
that the current one from my office (see
below) but taking three month
"mini-retirement" trips to discover the
world. If I can do it with the kids
before, then so much the better.
However, my brother and sister have put
a ban on Sarah and I taking our laptops! This is a bit horrifying, but
theoretically I should be able to
survive for 5 days and 4 nights without
email and more importantly Second Life!
Not a great prospect, especially as
Hermione has met a rather gorgeous young
Portugese chap with a penchant for
cornflakes!
I know that the the boutique b&b has
wireless so I might insist on staying in
that one. And sneak my lappie through in
my rather large snakeskin handbag!
Talking of T'INTERNET (as we call it
round here!), an interesting survey came
to my notice from Dr Alun Rees' "Editors
Note" section in Chris Barrow's ezine at
www.TheBusinessCoachingCo.com .
The National Statistics website has
published its Internet Access 2007
research. The full 15 page document can
be downloaded as a PDF document from
www.statistics.gov.uk.
The UK has 15.23 million households
with Internet access which is 61% of the
homes in the UK. 84% of the Internet
connections in 2007 are broadband
connections, which means broadband
take-up is sitting at around 51% of UK
households.
Ask yourself: What Does the UK Do With
Their Internet Connections?
....and then go and have a long hard
look at your website.
Does it work?
Does it do what you want it to do?
Does it gather leads or make money for
your business?
Is it it just a vanity project for your
company / business?
When did you last actually look at it?
Did you do it because you thought you
ought and now it's withering through
neglect?
Can you find it when you look on Google
for your expertise / specialty?
Who has the responsibility for it?
Have you checked you can view it with
Firefox, a browser increasingly growing
more popular?
T'INTERNET is a cornerstone of wealth
creation, and many Money Gym clients
choose to focus on building an internet
business as well as property, leaving
the stockmarket until later.
The beauty of an internet business over
a traditional one is that there are
incredibly low start up costs, very low
running costs, and a global market. As I
speak, I can see from my LivePerson
window that the Money Gym site has
visitors right now from Newham, Barking,
UK; Illinois, Chigaco, USA; Rome, Italy;
and Redbridge, Borehamwood, UK.
Do you know where your potential future
customers are from? Or more to the
point, what they are looking for?
I could just initiate a chat right now,
with any of those four, and ask them. O
yes, the Money Gym is at the cutting
edge of internet marketing. I just love
it.
SECOND LIFE
An interesting economic phenomena
occurred in SL this week. The builder of
the apartments that the Money Gym rents
out to cover Hermione’s SL costs, had
disappeared, before signing over
ownership to Hermione. Some of the
apartments are not quite perfect and so
we decided to drop the rents till we
could figure out what to do about that.
We have had a steady flow of tenants, in
and out, over the last few months, but
all 14 apartments have never been full
at once, and in SL, an empty area is not
attractive to avatars who crave company.
So we dropped the rents to either L$50
or L$100 week, depending on the outlook,
and the apartments filled up in two days
flat.
So that shows me that Hermione’s current
marketing activities are fine (as is
word of mouth via her sister Larimar
Watanabe) but that the apartments were
overpriced according to what the virtual
rental market will bear.
Now, as an avi departs, we are going to
edge the rents up, L$50 by L$50 until we
reach the emotional resistance level for
these type of apartments.
And we have a waiting list which is
cool.
Second Life, real life, lessons to be
learned everywhere.
Hermione (above), “acquired” quite a lot of
Linden dollars recently and has treated
herself to another new skin. Much finer
and prettier but a bit catlike and scary
looking, we think (well, Larimar thinks
she's a lot LESS scary looking... mutters
something about Hermione having mad
staring eyes before...). She might be
able to to tweak her mouth to smile a
bit but see what you think. Votes on a
virtual notecard to Hermione Watanabe or
give her feedback personally at The Bay
in Second Life.
My, how she’s evolved! And she does love
her bling!
SOMETHING
COMPLETELY RANDOM
Here's a video bought to my attention by my kids and their cousins... they were singing this demented song and laughing like mad fools at dinner time yesterday, so i made them show me what it was all about...

Have fun, we sure are!
